Charter Garden Party

On Saturday 12 June 2010 the College celebrated its Charter with a Garden Party for students, fellows, staff, former trustees and guests including the Vice-Chancellor, Dame Alison Richard who welcomed Homerton as a full College of the University of Cambridge.

A highlight of the event was the performance by the College’s Charter Choir of a composition by the Master of the Queen’s Music, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, setting to music a poem to commemorate the Charter written by the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy.  Both Sir Peter and Ms Duffy are Honorary Fellows of the College.   Students provided entertainment for the afternoon, including performances by the jazz band, rock band, steel band, the College Choir and comedy acts.   The weather was kind, the College and grounds looked superb, and the event provided a very relaxed and enjoyable celebration for those who had been involved with the College’s journey to collegiate status.
