Mr John Hammond, MPhil, Emeritus Fellow

Photo: Black and White John HammondPhoto: John HammondThere will be a memorial event to celebrate the life and work of Mr John Hammond, Emeritus Fellow, and former Senior Tutor of Homerton College, on Sunday 26th September. Refreshments prior to the event will be at 10.30am in the Boulind Room followed by presentations in the Auditorium at 11.00am. Lunch can then be purchased through the Servery.

Professor Tjeerd Hendrik Van Andel, 1923 to 2010

Photo: Professor Tjeerd Hendrik Van AndelIt is with great sadness that the College announces the death of the Principal's husband, Professor Tjeerd van Andel who died on Friday 17th September 2010, aged 87 years. Professor van Andel was the Wayne Loel Professor Emeritus of Earth Sciences at the University of Stanford and Former Honorary Professor of the University of Cambridge.

The funeral will take place at Cambridge Crematorium on Thursday 30th September at 3.00pm. There will be refreshments at Homerton College's Combination Room from 4.30pm. (It would be helpful to let the Principal's PA, Lizzie Madder know if you intend to come to the College (Email: enm25@cam.ac.uk or telephone 01223 747132).

Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or the World Land Trust through the funeral directors, Richard Stebbings (01223 232309).

Michaelhouse Festival - Performance of 'Cantata' by Dr John Hopkins On Sunday 7 November 2010, as part of the first Michaelhouse Festival, there will be a performance of Cantata, music by John Hopkins and poetry by Clive Wilmer. The work is based on the story of Caedmon, a herdsman who could not sing. Commanded to do so in a dream, however, he sang of the Creation of the world, and the song he made is the oldest poem in English.

The performance will take place at The Michaelhouse Centre, Trinity Street, Cambridge at 6.00 p.m.
