The Principal

Photo: Kate Pretty Dr Kate Pretty has been Principal since 1991. She is an archaeologist by training and as well as her duties at Homerton she is one of the University's five Pro Vice Chancellors with special responsibilities for outreach, life-long learning and international strategy as well as overseeing the work of the University's museums and libraries. She teaches both at Homerton and in the University.


John Gray

Photo: John Gray John Gray is the new Vice-Principal. He is a Professor of Education within the University. He moved to Homerton in 1994 and has been actively involved in its development since that time. He has written extensively about education and educational policy and is currently researching aspects of educational accountability as well as school factors which seem to affect pupils' emotional wellbeing.


Peter Warner

Photo: Peter Warner Peter Warner is Senior Tutor. He also teaches archaeology and medieval history, specialising in landscape archaeology with a particular focus on the archaeology and history of the county of Suffolk. His published works include The Origins of Suffolk (Manchester University Press, 1996) and Bloody Marsh a study of a Suffolk coastal community during the Civil War, published in 2001 and selected one of the top history books of the year by BBC 'History' magazine. Between 1999 and 2001 he was President of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society.


Gale Bryan

Photo: Gale Bryan Bursar since 1993, a chartered secretary, chartered engineer and, formerly, a submarine engineer officer and Commodore, Royal Navy. Educated at Torquay Grammar School, Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth and Christ's College, Cambridge.


Steve Watts

Photo: Steve Watts Is a college Lecturer in English and Tutor for Undergraduate Admissions. He teaches a wide range of subjects in the English Tripos and for the English 'main subject' elements of the Education Studies Tripos. He has written on the construction of masculinity in Modernist writing and the politics of pop music. His current interests include contemporary fiction, film, and the idea of the 'future body'.


Penny Barton

Photo: Penny Barton Has been Graduate Tutor since 2002, before which she held the same post at New Hall. Her role at Homerton is to manage and facilitate the rapid expansion of our diverse Higher Degree student body, created from small beginnings in 2001, as well as to act as Tutor for the Higher Degree students. She is also a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Earth Sciences, specialising in seismic imaging of the interior of the Earth's crust and lithosphere; her most recent fieldwork was off the Mexican coast investigating the deep structure of the Chicxulub meteorite impact crater implicated in the extinction of the dinosaurs.


Philip Stephenson

Photo: Philip Stephenson Philip Stephenson is the Dean of College and responsible for student disciplinary matters and liaison with the University Proctors. He came to Homerton in 1995 following a teaching career in London and Cambridgeshire schools which culminated in a headship at a Cambridge city centre primary school. Philip lectures in the Faculty of Education and has an active research interest in Museum and Gallery Education. In additon to his role as Dean, he is also the HUS Senior Treasurer and an active supporter of Homerton College Boat Club.
