Dr. Zhongzhao Teng received his BSc and PhD from the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.  he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Zaragoza, Spain in 2003 and won his first career developetn award, Juan de la Cierve Fellowship, in 2005.  he was appointed further as a research assistant professor in Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USA, in 2007.  Presently, he is a senior research associate in the University Department of Radiology, University of Cambridge.

Dr Teng is mainly interested in the translational application of combination of non-mini-invasive medical imaging, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT) and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and biomechnaical analysis in assessing the vulnerability fo atherosclerotic diseases.  he has also spent considerable efforts on characterizing the complex mechanicla behavious of different biology tissues using experimentla approaches and analytic modelling.  More details can be found through his homepage.

Research Interests: 
  • Developing MR imaging techniques to characterise morphological and compositional features in carotid atherosclerotic plaques and assessing the clinical significance of these features;
  • Performing medical image-based mechanical analysis, including structure only finite element analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) and Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) simulation, seeking the critical mechanical conditions which may be related to plaque progression and rupture;
  • Understanding the pathological impact of critical mechanical conditions within the plaque structure.
