Admissions: A Message From Professor Geoff Ward, the Principal
Welcome to Homerton College. We are delighted to hear from potential applicants, and this website will give you a taste of our College. You can start by watching our College video, reading our online prospectus or exploring the College using the interactive map. If you want to know even more, you can come to a virtual open day or talk to our current students using unibuddy. We will also be hosting a virtual preparatory summer programme for potential undergraduate applicants from any discipline, and will participate in the virtual Postgraduate Open Day this autumn. Our pages for undergraduates and postgraduates contain everything that you need to know about applying.
Before you look around this site, I’d like to add a few comments regarding why you might consider joining us.
We combine the old and new.
Homerton is the newest College at the University of Cambridge, but we also have over 250 years of history behind us. We have many of the traditions that you would expect from a Cambridge College, but are also thinking pro-actively about the ever-changing world. We have all of the dinners and ceremonies that you would expect of a Cambridge College, but also encourage you to develop your non-academic skills in parallel.
We are a large, but familial College.
Every year we accept nearly 200 undergraduate students and almost 400 new postgraduate students. Our students come from across the UK and from all over the world, and you can study any Cambridge course with us. Although we are big, we are renowned for being one of the friendliest Colleges, with a great Student Union to support you, and some amazing events to bring you together as a community (such as themed subject and “wizarding” dinners). Our Directors of Studies and Tutors will also provide any support that you need, both whilst here and long after you leave. You are a Homertonian for life and will always be welcome.
Learning is at our core.
If you join us, you would have the intensive academic lectures, seminars, supervisions and practical sessions that Cambridge is famous for. However, we go beyond this, and are constantly reflecting upon how we can enhance your overall education. For instance, Homerton Changemakers is our revolutionary new co-curricular programme that develops your non-academic skills in areas such as leadership, resilience, sustainability and social awareness.
There are some great people here.
Our staff and fellowship are here to support you and you will never find our doors closed. Our Fellows are world-class in their research and teaching. They have been involved in advances ranging from curing HIV to revolutionising education.
We have exceptional facilities.
Homerton is on the south side of Cambridge, with an orchard, lawns and generous green spaces to walk in. We have fine Victorian buildings and a superb new dining hall at the College’s heart. Living in College is overwhelmingly popular: all undergraduates can be accommodated on site throughout their studies, and we also have dedicated accommodation blocks for some postgraduates. Most of our study bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, and all have wi-fi. As well as comfortable bedrooms we have a large, modern and well-stocked library, an excellent gym, a theatre, music rooms, fitness studio and exceptional sports facilities close to the College.
