Schools Liaison Initiative

Homerton is committed to accepting the most talented students, regardless of their family, school, cultural, or religious background. We aim to give as much support and encouragement as possible to young people applying to University, and we are also keen to give information and guidance to those wanting to know more about gaining access to Higher Education more generally.

With this in mind, the college employs a Schools Liaison Officer (SLO).

Our Schools Liaison Officer

Photo: Laura CarterMy name is Laura Carter. I studied here at Cambridge, at Trinity Hall, graduating in 2011 with a BA degree in History. I attended a comprehensive secondary school in Somerset, so I know that it can be overwhelming considering applying to a University like Cambridge. In my job I aim to offer support and guidance to schools and pupils during the application process, as well as to work with younger years to help them raise aspirations towards thinking about Higher Education.

What we do

Through the Cambridge Admissions Office Link Area scheme, Homerton has a specific responsibility to work at raising the profile of Cambridge University in the following areas:

Visits to your school

Our SLO is always keen to hear from teachers and advisors who would like her to visit their school. Laura can run sessions with age groups from year 9 to year 13, on anything from “Thinking of University” to “The Cambridge Application Process”, depending on what is appropriate for your group. Please contact Laura to discuss the possibilities in more detail or to arrange a visit.
