Friendly and Supportive Tutorial System

Every student in the University has two key academic staff assigned to support them, their Supervisor (Course Director) and their personal Graduate Tutor.  Your Supervisor is appointed by the Faculty or Department, and overseas and guides your academic progress and you research.   Your Graduate Tutor is appointed by the College to offer pastoral support; to assist in any way possible with personal, financial or work-related problems and to represent you within the University if the need arises.  If you have any matters or concerns, the Graduate Tutor may be consulted in confidence before or after your arrival in Cambridge.  The Graduate Tutor at Homerton College is Dr Penny Barton.

The Graduate Administrator, Tanya Cunningham, is able to offer administrative support, advice and to arrange a meeting with your Graduate Tutor.

Students who have concerns about their health can visit the College Nurse, Sandy Chambers, who is available for consultation during term-time.  All new students also join a family doctor whilst they are in Cambridge to enable access to NHS (National Health) services.

We work closely with the University's Disability Resource Centre, but students can also seek advice and support from our Disability Liaison Officer, Mrs Charlotte Jenner.  This is particularly important if you have a disability or a learning difficulty, such as Dyslexia/Dyspraxia, or a medical condition, for which for any reason you did not disclose in your original application.

The College Finance Officer, Mr Dhiru Karia, is available to discuss any financial problems and offer advice on cash flow planning or for information.

Financial Support

The College offers Charter Scholarships (pdf) to existing matriculated members of the College, who are embarking on a new course of graduate study.

Graduate students are able to apply annually for a small Research Grant award.  These funds are intended to help students with expenses related to their research, such as travel to a research site, Conference Registration Fees or accommodation costs.

Students who find themselves in hardship due to unforeseen and unexpected financial difficulties can apply to the College hardship fund.
