The next Reunion will be on 21-22 September 2012
1.1 The title shall be known as the Homerton College Roll of Members hereinafter referred to as 'The Homerton Roll'.
1.2 The College is the Principal and Fellows represented by the College Council.
1.3 This Constitution has been approved by the Roll and the Homerton College Council.
2.1 To promote and facilitate continuing contact between members of the Roll and the College.
2.2 To promote social, educational and commemorative events on a regular basis to enhance this continuing contact both at the College and through the support of Regional Groups.2.3 To provide members with a communication and information network, both on paper and electronically, that will inform members of the state of the College and of the Roll, to promote such events and to provide information about former members.
2.4 To maintain a database of names and addresses of all members of the Homerton Roll who have agreed that such information should be held on record, and in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
2.5 To provide information about members to the College for the purpose of enhancing the College's historical archive, and for the use by the College Development and Roll Office for events and fund-raising efforts.
The following are eligible to be members of the Roll:
3.1 All matriculated undergraduates, following their graduation.
3.2 All Junior Year Abroad students who have completed a year's study.
3.3 All matriculated postgraduates who have followed a full-time course of one year's duration or longer (to include PGCE, MPhil, PhD, M Ed and others), and who have completed their studies in Cambridge as members of Homerton College.
3.4 All Retired Fellows and Senior Members.
3.5 All other members of the College who were not matriculated and were full-time students of the College before 1980 on the payment of a Life Membership fee.
3.6 Any other person having a close association with the College who the Principal, with the consent of the Executive Committee, may invite to become a member of the Homerton Roll.
4.1 The College shall collect a Life Membership fee from all members of the College in categories 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 above at the time of their matriculation.
4.2 Any former member of the College who was in residence before 1980 may join the Roll on payment of a Life Membership fee to the Keeper of the Roll.
4.3 Retired Fellows and Senior Members and any person invited to join by the Principal under 3.6 above shall not be required to pay a fee.
5.1 There shall be a Keeper of the Roll, appointed by the Principal, with the approval of the Executive Committee and the Members of the Roll at their Annual General Meeting.
The Keeper of the Roll:
5.2 shall admit new members to the Roll, collecting, on behalf of the College, Life Membership fees where appropriate, enabling the College to enter their names on the database of Members of the Homerton Roll.
5.3 shall oversee the maintenance, by the Development and Roll Office, of the database of names and addresses of all members of the Roll, in a single database shared with the Development Office of the University of Cambridge by agreement with the University and College.
5.4 shall be responsible for the organisation of an Annual General Meeting, to be held on the occasion of the Annual Reunion, and any extraordinary meeting of Roll Members deemed necessary by the Executive Committee or the membership themselves.
5.5 shall be responsible for the Agenda and Minutes of meetings of the Executive Committee.
5.6 shall promote and arrange social, educational and commemorative events at the College from time to time and shall receive monies in connection with those events which shall be transferred to the College.
5.7 shall with the Editor of The Homertonian and the Editor of The Roll News, and through the Roll web page on the College website, ensure that the members of the Roll are kept informed of matters pertaining to the College, the Development and Roll Office and its membership.
5.8 shall ensure that all monies received by the Roll are transferred to the College Finance Office, who shall keep the Roll Accounts.
5.9 shall authorise, with delegated authority from the Executive Committee, the award of a Westall Prize, given by the Roll annually to a graduating student who has rendered exceptional service to the College.
5.10 shall advise the College to disburse honoraria to Officers of the Executive Committee including the Keeper of the Roll.
5.11 shall with the help of the College Finance Officer (who normally is the Treasurer of the Roll) prepare an Annual Business Plan for the following year. The Business Plan will be submitted to the Executive Committee who will present it to the Principal and College Council for approval. The Keeper of the Roll, in consultation with the Treasurer, shall produce an Annual Report in November of each year which shall include an extract of the Roll Income and Expenditure Account for the year and proposed Business Plan for the following year.
5.12 shall arrange for payment of travelling and other expenses to members of the Executive Committee.
6.1 There shall be an Executive Committee of the Homerton Roll, hereinafter called 'The Committee'.
6.2 The Committee shall be composed of:
6.3 The Committee shall seek new members to replace retiring members.
6.4 Committee members shall be appointed each year at the Annual General Meeting by those present at the meeting.
6.5 Committee members shall serve for four years, two members retiring each year.
6.6 Committee members may stand for re-election only after 12 months have elapsed since the time of their last period of committee membership.
6.7 The Committee shall have the power to co-opt up to three additional members who shall serve for four years.
6.8 The Committee shall meet at least twice a year and normally once a term.
6.9 The Committee shall assist and advise the Keeper of the Roll in the execution of the duties outlined in Section 5 above.
6.10 The Committee shall propose the level of the Life Membership fee to the membership through the Annual General Meeting from time to time.
6.11 The Committee shall publish two annual publications, The Homertonian, which shall be sent to all members, and the Roll News, which shall be available by subscription, and any other occasional paper or papers which are appropriate for the Roll.
6.12 The Committee shall appoint from among themselves members who shall undertake the editorship of The Homertonian and the Roll News.
6.13 The Committee shall submit a Budget and Business Plan to the College Council, as part of the annual College budget cycle, by 31st January for the following financial year commencing 1st August.
7.1 The College Council shall provide the Roll with an assurance that the Roll activities will be reasonably supported and funded from the membership fee and College contributions, and that the Homerton Roll shall have access to space for Roll events, meetings and dinners.
7.2 Keeper, The Roll and Alumni Secretary and the Editors of the Roll News and the Homertonian will be paid, where appropriate, a salary or an honorarium for their efforts, funded from the membership subscription and contributions by the College. The Roll and Alumni Secretary will be an employee of the College and will be responsible for the administration of events, meetings, annual and termly dinners, and in liaison with the College’s Senior Development Officer and Finance Officer, for the smooth running of the Roll Administration.
7.3 The Homerton Roll transactions will be part of the Consolidated Income and Expenditure of the College Accounts and audited as such.
7.4 The Fellowship of Homerton College, as the Governing Body, shall be responsible, accountable and liable for the financial transactions of the Homerton Roll.
