During this academic year Homerton will be hosting this year's Judith E. Wilson Poetry Fellow, Redell Olsen.
Redell Olsen's most recent book Film Poems is due to be published later this month and collects her texts for film and live performance from 2007 – 2012. Previous collections include Punk Faun: A Bar Rock Pastel, Secure Portable Space and Book Of The Fur. Redell Olsen completed a first degree in English literature at Cambridge University (New Hall / Murray Edwards) in the early 1990s. She then completed postgraduate work in Fine Art during which time she developed her research interests and writing practice in the areas of poetry, performance, photographic installation, film, bookworks and site-specific textual practice. She subsequently completed a Phd at the University of London with a focus on the relationship between poetry and the visual arts. She has been a lecturer and a visiting lecturer at various institutions including Dartington College of Art and Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts, London. In 2002 she founded the MA in Poetic Practice at Royal Holloway, University of London where prior to taking up the Judith E. Wilson Poetry Fellow she was a Reader in the Department of English. From 2006 – 2010 she was the director of How2 the International online journal for modernist and contemporary innovative writing by women. To mark the beginning of her fellowship Redell Olsen will be giving a reading with Ian Patterson in the Judith E. Wilson Drama Studio (Faculty of English) at 8pm on Tuesday October 15th. All are welcome.
Current students from Homerton are very welcome to attend the writing group that Redell Olsen will be running in the Faculty of English on Wednesday afternoons during term time.
