Dr André Neves, Director of Studies in Biological Sciences and Fellow of Homerton College has been working with a group of gastroenterologists to develop a fluorescent dye spray which sticks to healthy cells in the oesophagus (food pipe) but cannot attach itself to cancer cells or those in the early stages of turning cancerous.

Cheerleading is taking off at Cambridge University and with 6 Homerton girls making up the 27 members of the Cambridge University squad we have something to shout about!  Homerton has provided each of its cheerleading students with funding towards the cost of their uniforms which they are now wearing with pride.  Cambridge Cougars have won several competitions in the past and frequently rank highly.  Their most recent competition saw them placed 2nd out of 24 teams at All Girl Level 2, a...

Lent Bumps

Since the 19th Century the good, the bad and sometimes the downright ugly have donned their college colours in the form of tight lycra to compete in the Cambridge Bumps.  Last week saw Homerton row to glory in Lents with three of our four boats moving up, W2 by 5 places and M1 getting blades!  Number 7 in M1 boat summarised perfectly the feeling on day 3 as "Full of excitement, although not for all the right reasons".

Professor Geoffrey Ward, currently Vice Principal of Royal Holloway College, University of London, will become Homerton's next Principal on 1st October succeeding Dr Kate Pretty.

Professor Ward is currently Vice Principal for Students and Staff at Royal Holloway College, University of London where he previously served as Dean of Arts.  Prior to that he was Professor of English and Head of Department at the University of Dundee before taking on the role of Deputy Principal.

Homerton College in partnership with Cambridge University, is inviting talented year 12 students from Doncaster, Rotherham, Hounslow, Richmond and Kingston to apply for a taste of university life on one of four free 2013 Summer Schools.

Dr Margaret Mary Louise Pirouet, Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at Homerton College 1978-1989, died peacefully on 21 December 2012.  There will be a Memorial Service at Great St Mary’s Church at 12.00 noon on 10 January.

Louise came to Homerton from the University of East Africa, at Makere in Uganda where she had been teaching religious studies and undertaking radical and innovative research.  She subsequently taught for many years in the Religious Studies Department at Homerton...

For the first time Homerton College hosted the Postdocs of Cambridge (PdOC) Society formal dinner which was held in December and was attended by 170 guests; 158 PdOCs and 12 Fellows of Homerton. A warm welcome was received and a wonderfully festive evening was had by all.  A particular highlight was the introduction to the Homerton Horn drinking ritual by Homerton's Principal, Dr Kate Pretty, which many of the guests took an opportunity to try.  As well as to have a Christmas celebration,...

Miriam Mason-Sesay, the Country Director of EducAid Sierra Leone has been awarded an MBE for her exceptional services to education and to charitable work in Sierra Leone.

For over a decade Miriam has been central to developing the provision of education in Sierra Leone after the devastation of 10 years of civil war.  She has made great strides in helping to re-build the country's education system and has given hope to hundreds of young victims of the brutal conflict.

Homerton College is delighted to welcome Ms Deborah Griffin OBE as Bursar and Fellow from Monday, 23rd July 2012.  Deborah takes over from Commodore Gale Bryan who retired recently.

After taking a degree in Economics at UCL, Deborah qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked in the hotel industry before joining Andersen and then Deloittes where she has been working  in corporate finance.
