There are excellent transport facilities available to students in Cambridge. Buses run every ten minutes from outside the College into the centre of town. The main line railway station is only a few streets away, and there are always taxis that can be shared. The use of a bicycle is normal practice in Cambridge for students and staff alike.
The Uni 4 Bus runs between West Cambridge and Addenbrookes, via Grange road and town. It drops off and picks up just outside Homerton.
A timetable is available from Stagecoach (pdf).
The main bus operator is Stagecoach in Cambridge and other timetables and further information can be found on their website www.stagecoachbus.com/cambridge/
The national rail telephone enquiry number is 08457 484950. An online journey planner can be found on: The National Rail website
A good second-hand bicycle can be purchased for between £30 - £50 and will always beat the traffic and more often than not beat the buses as well. It is essential that bicycles should always be locked in the cycle racks and registered with the Head Porter who will put a security number on the bicycle.
Because of severe traffic and parking problems in Cambridge it is a Regulation of the University, agreed with the City Council, that students are not allowed to keep a car or motorcycle in Cambridge unless they have written permission in the form of a University Motor Proctor's Licence. Parking space at Homerton is strictly limited. Students who have obtained a Proctors' Licence for a Motor Car in Cambridge and live within the City may not necessarily be given a Homerton Parking Permit unless they are physically disabled. Further information about these regulations can be obtained from the Senior Tutor, Dr Warner.
