Homerton Union of Students represents both the undergraduate and postgraduate members of the college who are here to study, or to undertake research within the faculties of the University of Cambridge. Without doubt Homerton Union of Students is the most active JCR in Cambridge, frequently getting excellent turn-outs to national and regional political rallies. Homertonians too are heavily involved within the University. In recent years we have had a CUSU President, editors of both 'TCS' and 'Varsity', appeared on the TV stages of University Challenge and had several 'Blues' sportsmen. Although only recently established as a 'proper' Cambridge College our contribution often far exceeds that of our established rivals. Homerton is the only college to have a full-time sabbatical President, so students are fully represented on many college committees. Homerton students and their representatives also play a forceful role in initiating and following through their own schemes, such as Homerton's very own Target Schools Open Day. HUS is committed to maintaining Homerton's tradition as an open and friendly place, welcoming to a wide variety of students. |

Graduate SocietiesThere is also the Graduate Society, GRADSOC. With a new, increasingly diversified graduate student body, Homerton has made provision for graduates with the creation of new posts on the 'Exec', and a graduate common room. In this way Homerton Union of Students provides for different types of students while maintaining a unified structure. Homerton College is one of the largest and friendliest of the 31 colleges in Cambridge University and also has one of the most active student unions, Homerton Union of Students (HUS). Each college within the university has its own student union, all of which form part of wider bodies, CUSU - Cambridge University Students Union (http://www.cusu.cam.ac.uk) and the Graduate Union (of which graduate students and mature students are members). In Homerton, our Graduate Society is already part of a unified HUS.The student body are represented by the HUS Exec who are students elected with responsibility for help with students' welfare, entertainment, sports, finances, producing a student newspaper (Homerton Union of Students Herald) and much more. The sovereign body of HUS are its Open Meetings where all student members of HUS can hold the Exec to account and vote on changes and procedure. |
