You are warmly invited to the Anti-Racist Reading Collective on May 20, 4.30-6pm both in-person Bamford Room, Homerton College and online hosted by the Manchester Poetry Library, Manchester Metropolitan University. Join us for a presentation from Kai Syng Tan on her new book, Neuro-Futurism and Re-Imagining Leadership: A decolonial, neuro-queered and co-creative practice. The session will include a short response from Dita N Love, followed by open discussion and invitation to share areas of interest for next sessions. Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome.
This session draws on Kai Syng Tan’s new book Neuro-Futurism and Re-Imagining Leadership: An A-Z towards Collective Liberation (Palgrave Macmillan 2024). Drawing on the efforts of artists, activists and other atypical /minoritised doers, dreamers and daredevils, neuro-futurism calls for a re-imagination of ‘leadership’ as a trans-disciplinary, (co-)creative, diversified, decolonised, neuro-queered practice of change and future-making. Kai Syng Tan PhD PFHEA is an artist-academic–author-agitator. Hyper-active and tentacular, Kai (she/they) activates artistic and artful processes and strategies to catalyse novel insights, dialogues and actions for a more equitable and creative future. They founded the Neurodiversity In/and Creative Research Network in 2020 (from where the inclusivity guidelines for the session is drawn), and co-founded the Anti-Racism Reading Group at the back of a well-received Black History Month 2020 programme, amongst other networks. By day Kai is Associate Professor in Arts and Cultural Leadership, University of Southampton, UK. More on Kai here.
ABOUT THE ANTI-RACISM READING GROUP
The Anti-Racism Reading Group was founded by the Manchester School of Art, Department of Art and Performance EDI team Dr Kai Syng Tan and Dr Hannah Singleton, as well as the Race Equality Activities Group (REAP), and is now hosted by the Manchester Poetry Library. It is a legacy of the 75th Anniversary Celebrations of the 5th Pan African Congress #PAC75.
ABOUT THE HOMERTON ANTI-RACIST READING COLLECTIVE
The Homerton College Anti-Racist Reading Collective (ARRC) at the University of Cambridge was initiated by Dr Dita N love, co-founded and run with Dr Melanie Keene. ARRC was inspired by the Anti-Racism Reading Group in Manchester, the Poetic Justice Access project and wider cross-university EDI initiatives. It is supported by Homerton College and the Homerton College Library.
