About the Library
Homerton College Library is a modern, open-plan, three-floor facility supporting all undergraduate academic subject areas. Our collections include books, DVDs, CDs, printed music for hire, and study equipment such as lap-desks, book stands, model skeletons, molymod sets, and more.
Access & Borrowing
All College Libraries are for College members only, and primarily aim to support undergraduates taking Part I of the Cambridge Tripos. We warmly welcome all Homerton College members, including Fellows, staff, postgraduates, and alumni.
We have a number of special collections, most notably the Children's Literature Collection which supports the Centre for Research in Children's Literature at Cambridge. Because of this, Primary PGCE students and Children’s Literature students from other Colleges are given special access to Homerton College Library. All students using the Library are expected to abide by the Student Contract.
Your University card (UCAM) is also your Homerton College Library card. Please attend a scheduled Library Induction, or request one, in order to have your account activated. Current members have full access and borrowing rights (up to 15 items); Emeritus members and alumni can access the space and materials during staffed hours.
Accessibility & Wellbeing
We aim to provide a supportive and accessible academic environment. We put out crafts, jigsaws, and games to encourage study breaks, and there are a range of "study buddies" (book-themed teddies) to keep you company whilst you work in the Library (you can move them around the Library with you, but please do not remove them altogether!). During Easter term we provide squash and biscuits every week-day afternoon at 15:00. Our Wellbeing and Life Skills book collection is borrowable from the ground floor, and browsable online. We are happy to connect you with our colleagues at the Cambridge Libraries Accessibility Service, who provide additional wellbeing, disability, and accessibility support.
Facilities
Study space
There are over 60 work spaces in the Library, with a mixture of large shared desks and individual study carrels situated amongst bookshelves on three levels. There are a number of comfortable chairs, beanbags, and couches, as well as equipment such as lamps, fans, blankets, rests and stands for your books and devices, and more. The library is a quiet space but it is open-plan, so noise-cancelling headphones are recommended. Study spaces are not bookable. Food is not permitted and drinks must be consumed from sealed containers.
IT
You can pay to print, copy and scan in the Library using the University's Managed Print Service. There are 13 University Managed Desktop (UMD) computers available for use in the Library on a first-come, first-served basis. The UMD, as well as the printers and Wi-Fi (Eduroam), are centrally operated by the University Information Service (UIS). Login into UMD with your Raven credentials, and use your UCAM card to log into the printers. See also the Homerton College IT & printing page.
