Graduating from the University of Cambridge
The congregation known as General Admission, is when most undergraduates proceed to their first degree at the end of their final term. This years, General Admission will occur on 2nd July 2022.
Any member of Homerton College who has fulfilled the appropriate examination and residence requirements may proceed at Congregation. Degree ceremonies are held at the Senate House on various dates throughout the year; although Homerton College does not attend every ceremony, only those listed below.
Your degree will not be officially awarded to you until you have participated in a Congregation of the Regent House, either in person or in absentia. Your degree certificate and official University transcript will only be issued once your degree has been conferred, if received in absentia this will be posted to you a few weeks after the ceremony date.
Please note the College will not put forward anyone for graduation who has not settled their College and University bills.
If you wish to put your name forward to receive your degree at any Congregation you will need to contact the Praelectors' Secretary in the Tutorial Office.
Guest entry to the Senate House ceremony is by ticket only. We are allocated two guest tickets for Ordinary Congregations per graduand, and also for the MA ceremony, two guest tickets per graduand.
For further more detailed information regarding Graduation, Certificates and Transcripts please see the University website.
Dress code for General Admission
The University’s academic dress consists of a gown and hood, made of a different material or in a different colour to denote either the wearer's existing degree or the degree they are about to receive. It is the responsibility of the graduand to order and collect their own gown and hood as directed by their outfitter.
Full dress code can be downloaded from this webpage.
As graduation is a formal occasion, an appropriate standard of dress is expected. The dress code is strictly enforced at the ceremony and if you do not observe it, you may not be allowed to enter the Senate House and therefore not permitted to graduate in person. You are also strongly advised not to leave your booking for your hood and gown to the last minute as outfitters may not be able to guarantee stock.
Persons taking their first Cambridge degree wear appropriate gowns - in the case of undergraduates, their undergraduate gown, with the hood of the degree to be taken. The hoods clearly indicate the degrees sought by graduands. Under no circumstances should a gown of another institution/College be worn
