Employee Benefits

The College offers employees a range of competitive benefits from defined benefit pension schemes to discounts at local businesses. Here is a list outlining all the benefits currently available.

Annual Leave

All full time and part-time employees of the College are entitled to paid annual leave pro-rata to the number of days you work in a week. If you work a five-day week, you are entitled to 25 days leave per year, if you work a four-day week the entitlement is 20 days leave etc.

On the anniversary of 5 years' service with the College, your entitlement to paid annual leave will increase to 30 days if you work a 5 day week.  For those employees working less than 5 days per week, the entitlement will be prorated accordingly.  Further information on annual leave and other types of leave can be found in the staff Handbook.

Pensions Scheme

The College administers the Local Government Pension Scheme and USS pension scheme on behalf of its employees.  Both Schemes are defined benefit pension schemes. USS monthly employee contributions are 9.6% and employer contributions 21.1%.  LGPS employee contributions range from 5.5 to 12.5%, depending on your actual salary, and employer contributions 18.2%.

College Gym

Whilst you are an employee at Homerton you will be eligible to join the on-site gym. There is an annual membership fee but it is very competitive compared to other private gyms. Membership forms can be obtained from the Bursary.

Microsoft software

As an employee of Homerton College you can purchase Microsoft software at greatly reduced prices.

Eye Care Scheme

Homerton’s DSE eyesight testing scheme is administered by ASE (Eyecare Plans) Ltd. The arrangement Homerton has with ASE fully meets all the requirements of the DSE Regulations. Therefore, staff must use this scheme if they want the College to fund their work related DSE eyesight test and corrective spectacles required specifically for use with DSE. It is not always the case that just because you wear spectacles when operating the VDU your employer should pay for them.

Homerton will provide DSE ‘users’ with a full eye and eyesight test at any of the opticians listed in the ASE Directory of Affiliated Opticians and will pay for suitable vocational spectacles where found necessary.

Free meal whilst on duty

You are entitled to one meal a day in the Great Hall whilst you are at work. Further information can be found under Policies and Procedures on the intranet.

Employee Referral Scheme

Refer a friend or family member and if they are successfully recruited to a Homerton vacancy you may be entitled to receive £150 on their appointment and a further £150 after they have successfully completed their probation period.  Further information can be found under Policies and Procedures on the intranet.

The scheme is run through Sodexo and offers you the chance to get the bike of your dreams from a trusted chain or your friendly local independent cycle shop, all while saving up to a third of the cost, (based on a basic rate taxpayer)

Whether it’s a mountain bike, BMX, fixie, electric cycle, or one of those bikes with a basket on the front, you can  get the wheels  you want, at an affordable cost spread over 12 months through a salary sacrifice payment scheme, in other words your payments go through prior to  tax and National insurance is deducted.

  • The scheme gives you the chance to get a commuting bike and safety gear up to the value of £1,000 including VAT. It doesn't just have to be used to commute, though – it's there to use as you like as long as it is actually used to get to work too.
  • You can choose your bike from a network of over 2,000 independent, national, online and local stores across the UK including Halfords, Station Cycles Ben Haywards etc.
