About Grace

Grace Hernández brings over 10 years of experience in mental health services, having worked in various roles across acute hospitals, private practive and the charity sector. As Homerton’s Wellbeing Counselling Consultant, Grace is dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of the entire College community, including students, staff, and Fellows.

Grace is a qualified Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Her qualifications include:

  • MSc Therapeutic Counselling
  • BSc Psychology
  • Level 3 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • PTSD Management Course Diploma

She has also received specialist training in Suicide Mitigation, the Mental Capacity and Mental Health Acts, Domestic Abuse, Trauma-Informed Care, Conflict Resolution, Difficult Conversations, and Mental Health Awareness.


Wellbeing Support

Grace provides students, staff and fellows wellbeing advice on topics such as work-life balance, bereavement, stress, family concerns, social interactions, a sense of belonging, and self-care.

Counselling Provision

Homerton students and staff can access short-term counselling to address a range of concerns. Grace is available to discuss the different counselling pathways for students (click here to find out more). Grace can refer staff to the University Counselling Service or staff can access this service via HR.

Pastoral Support

Grace is available to attend and support wellbeing-related meetings between students, Tutors, Directors of Studies, and the Senior Tutor Team.


The Way I Work - Privacy and Confidentiality

As the Wellbeing Counselling Consultant, I am part of the wider Wellbeing Team. To support you as effectively and efficiently as possible, I work within a system of team confidentiality. This means that information you share with me may be shared with other relevant members of the Wellbeing team, Senior Tutor team, your tutor, tutorial and the porters, if I believe doing so would help provide you with the best support. 

If you do not want information to be shared outside of the Wellbeing team, please let me know. I will do my best to respect your wishes. However, in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, I may be required to break confidentiality. If this happens, I will aim to inform you before taking any action—where possible.

Please note that I now save my notes on a shared system where all Wellbeing Team members are able to access my notes. Other member sof the support team can see that we have had an interaction but cannot access further information on the system.
