About Grace

Grace Hernández brings over 10 years of experience in mental health services, having worked in various roles across acute hospitals and the charity sector. As Homerton’s Wellbeing Counselling Consultant, Grace is dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of the entire College community, including students, staff, and Fellows.

Grace is a qualified Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Her qualifications include:

  • MSc Therapeutic Counselling
  • BSc Psychology
  • Level 3 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • PTSD Management Course Diploma

She has also received specialist training in Suicide Mitigation, the Mental Capacity and Mental Health Acts, Domestic Abuse, Trauma-Informed Care, Conflict Resolution, Difficult Conversations, and Mental Health Awareness.


Wellbeing Support

Grace provides students, staff and fellows wellbeing advice on topics such as work-life balance, bereavement, stress, family concerns, social interactions, a sense of belonging, and self-care.

Sessions: 30-minute appointments are available either online or in Cav G21.

Counselling Provision

Homerton students and staff can access short-term counselling (6-12 sessions) to address a range of concerns. Grace is available to discuss the different counselling pathways for students (click here to find out more). Grace can refer staff to the University Counselling Service or staff can access this service via HR.

Pastoral Support

Grace is available to attend and support wellbeing-related meetings between students, Tutors, Directors of Studies, and the Senior Tutor Team.


Wellbeing Training and Awareness

Grace also leads training sessions and collaborates with the Wellbeing Team to raise awareness about mental health and wellbeing, contributing to activities and initiatives for the Homerton community.


The Way I Work - Privacy and Confidentiality

As the Wellbeing Counselling Consultant, I am part of the Wellbeing Team. For the team to work as effectively and efficiently as possible, I work within ‘team confidentiality’ in order to best support you. This means that if and when I believe it would be beneficial to share information within the Wellbeing and Senior Tutor team*, I will. This may be to help me to best support you, or because I believe having other members of the Wellbeing team involved in supporting you, would be in your best interest.

HOWEVER, if you do not consent for me to share with the team, please make me aware of this. I will endeavour to honour your privacy, although if you or others are at risk, I will be required to break confidentiality. If I was required to break confidentiality, I would inform you of this, if possible before doing so.
