Homerton College recently shone the spotlight on all things mental health and wellness, with the return of the Wellbeing Fair. This followed the success of the inaugural fair last year, and was made possible by our generous sponsor, Jean Robinson.
Throughout the day, the Wellbeing Team organised a variety of wellness-themed activities which showcased just some of the ways in which our community can take action to help maintain good mental wellbeing. One of the ways we can help maintain good mental wellbeing is through spending time in nature, which was showcased through the 'Wellbeing Wander'. Led by one of Homerton's expert Gardeners, the group was guided through Homerton's extensive grounds, which looked particularly stunning in the sunshine, and attendees had the opportunity to learn about the wide variety of plants and trees Homerton has on site.
Another way we can help improve mental wellbeing is through physical activity, and this was demonstrated through the group 'Wellbeing Jog', and even a vibrant Salsa lesson - which saw students and staff alike take to the floor to learn some signature Salsa moves!
Taking place in April just ahead of "exam season", the Wellbeing Fair was also an important opportunity to highlight some of the services which are available to support students and staff. The Great Hall was filled with representatives from entities from the College, the wider University, and the local area. Those in attendance from Homerton College included The Porters, The Library, Staff Mental Health Champions, and College Discrimination and Harassment Contacts (CDHCs), whilst those from the wider University included University of Cambridge Sport, the Postgraduate Wellbeing Service, and the Accessibility & Disability Resource Centre. From outside the University, we were also joined by Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre, Change Grow Live and Cambridgeshire Recovery Service, and CPSL Mind WorkWell Programme.
The Homerton Wellbeing Team organise activities throughout each term for both students and staff, this includes mindfulness sessions, yoga, pilates, and Zumba - as well as a staff bookclub and student workshops.
