The Daniel Daley Sextet, starring four Homerton students, won the final of ‘Take it to the Bridge’ on Sunday 23 April at the Hidden Rooms.
The event was being run by the University of Cambridge's Centre for Music Performance, partnering with The Cambridge Club Festival. 'Take it to the Bridge' is a brand new competition. As the winners, Daniel Daley will perform at the festival on Saturday 10 June in a line up with the likes of Lionel Richie, Grace Jones, and Billy Ocean.
The group formed last year with Milo Flynn (sax) and Gabriel Duval (bass) hosting weekly Jazz in the Bar jams in college, quickly gaining popularity and playing at multiple May Balls and Garden Parties in the summer. At the start of this year, following some band departures, they recruited from the hefty Homerton talent pool. Welcoming in Nat Jobbins (keys), Maya Moh (vocals) and Pembroke’s own, Noam Solomons Wise (drums), the band have gone from strength to strength.
Playing anything from Miles Davis and Erykah Badu to Louis Cole and Adele, the band have found themselves in high demand playing regularly for big crowds, most recently selling out Homerton’s Great Hall for our first ever Gig Night (organised by the band themselves in conjunction with HCMS president Amber Coxill!), and Clare Cellars for a Clare Jazz Night.
