Join us for Homerton's Anti-Racism Symposium – a safe space for a deeper dialogue. To reject tokenism and to take action.
This is a chance for students, staff, and Fellows to talk openly about racism at Cambridge: how it shows up in everyday college life, why it keeps happening, and what we can do about it.
We will focus on the real, lived experiences of Black, Asian, and other racially minoritised students—exploring everyday prejudice, college culture, how racism affects mental health and studies, and what Homerton can meaningfully do differently.
Date for your diary: Tuesday 28 April. 9.45am to 7.30pm. In the Fellows’ Auditorium and other rooms.
Book now! Free. Lunch and refreshments provided. Registration essential. Click here!
What to expect: guest speakers, small discussion groups, creative activities, and student-led sessions. The goal is to help everyone understand these issues better, support each other more effectively, and make Homerton a place where everyone genuinely feels safe and included. That’s #TheHomertonWay
This event is being co-created with students, so it reflects what matters most to you. It's part of our Holding Space: Deepening Dialogue series, and Homerton's wider work to tackle harassment and build a truly inclusive College community. The full programme will be published soon.
This event will explore:
- A dedicated space for students, staff and Fellows to examine how racism is experienced, reproduced, and challenged within collegiate university environments.
- Centring the lived experiences of racially-minoritised students, the event will explore themes such as microaggressions, structural exclusion, the emotional and academic impact of racism, and pathways for institutional change.
- Through a combination of keynote contributions, facilitated small-group discussions, creative workshops, and student-led panels, the symposium aims to deepen understanding, build allyship, and strengthen the culture of psychological safety at Homerton.
Everyone welcome – whether you've experienced racism firsthand, want to be a better ally, or just want to learn more about making Cambridge fairer for everyone.
The Anti-Racism Symposium forms part of Homerton’s proactive commitment to tackling harassment, promoting inclusion, and embedding anti-racist practice across all aspects of College life.
