Global Leadership and Cultural Understanding in English Summer Programme

Dates:  3 – 16 August, 2025

The Global Leadership and Cultural Understanding in English Programme is designed for students who are studying undergraduate degrees at international universities and are aiming to develop their critical thinking skills across a wide range of topics, as well as broadening their cultural understanding and developing confidence in delivering presentations and speaking in English. Upon completion students receive official certificates from Homerton College, University of Cambridge.

Why choose the programme?

Our versatile 2 week timetable features different educational formats, including lectures, discussions, workshops and group work. You will be taught by world-class academics and teachers in Cambridge, working with current Cambridge University students. Students will experience life in the UK beyond the classroom through excursions locally in Cambridge and field trips to Oxford and London. Special College events include an Afternoon Tea and a Formal College Dinner.

Course Structure and Topics:

English Language Module develops critical thinking and spoken English with a focus on British culture. The varied subject areas invite discussion, debate and a safe place for students to share ideas and opinions.  There are also Personal Development classes that offer opportunities for students to improve professional skills and reflect upon career pathway advice. These classes are highly interactive as students will be working in small groups using flipcharts and whiteboards to develop ideas and mini presentations which they present to their peers and teachers.

Global Leadership Module includes workshops and lectures that provide multidisciplinary modules covering Science and Technology, International Business and Entrepreneurship and Humanities. Students cover all areas, with the intention of encouraging them to think in a more interdisciplinary fashion, while also introducing them to subject areas they may not have come across before and that will provide more English language vocabulary.

Science & Technology Sessions explore interesting and often cutting-edge developments that have applications for changing our way of life. Past topics have included Green Technology solutions for Transportation, Artificial Intelligence and Ethics, Innovation in Cancer Research and Wearable Technology for Sports.

International Business & Entrepreneurship Sessions explore more practical business skills, case studies and involves learning from people who are experienced practitioners. Previous programmes have focused on Marketing and Branding, UK start-up culture, Funding and developing business plans.

Humanities Sessions explore subject areas such as Education, Economics, International Law and Politics. Previous lectures have included discussions on Conflict Resolution and International Diplomacy, the importance of early years education, the development of creativity in children and economic development in emerging markets.
