Bright, spacious and green
We are very proud of the facilities here at Homerton. The College is based in south Cambridge, close to the biomedical campus and unlike some of the city centre colleges, has acres of green space to enjoy.
Our student rooms are all on-site. Most undergraduates live in either the two purpose-built student halls, West House and South Court, or the older Victorian part of the College. All of these offer individual study bedrooms with en-suite facilities and access to a shared kitchen.
Our library is a modern, well-stocked, open plan facility covering most academic subjects. It provides material for undergraduates taking Part 1 of the Cambridge Tripos but welcomes all members of the College, including postgraduates, Fellows and staff.
Eating together is a vital part of life at Homerton. The College Formal Halls take place by candlelight in the Great Hall, a grand vaulted Gothic space. Also, there is a daily cafeteria lunch and dinner with a diverse choice of food. Our Buttery serves breakfast, snacks and hot drinks and weekend brunch. We also have the Griffin Bar, where the JCR/Homerton Union of Students host events.
Homerton College in partnership with St Marys School has created a new state of the art sports facility on Long Road.
Facilities include astroturf pitches for hockey, football and rugby, two tennis/netball courts, cricket nets, high jump and long jump facilities, junior grass football pitch and in summer an athletics track.
Other facilities on the College site include a well-equipped gym, a football pitch with adjacent changing rooms and croquet pitch in the summer.
We also have several rooms which can be hired out for society and club meetings, including a dance studio, auditorium and drama studio.
Despite the setback of Covid-19 this year, an ambitious development programme is still being progressed by the College.
North Wing now houses a new auditorium for 110 people, two large music practice rooms and 18 guest bedrooms. A pavilion is being added to the new sports fields on Long Road and construction on a new Dining Hall, with buttery, servery and kitchens started in February with completion scheduled for the end of 2021.
With these projects already underway we are now working on plans for a new Porters Lodge, encompassing a Children's Literature Resource Centre and additional group study spaces. We are also looking to re-purpose the Great Hall and the area surrounding it, to ensure this remains a well-used and beautiful space for College members.
