The Charter Choir is Homerton's premier music ensemble. It was founded in 2009 in celebration of Homerton gaining its Royal Charter and obtaining College status within the University of Cambridge. It is a friendly community with an active agenda, singing the music of a variety of periods and styles, both accompanied and unaccompanied. In the past few years it has rapidly risen in profile and now undertakes regular cathedral visits, international tours, and recordings. The Choir has also featured on BBC Radio 3.

Entry is usually by audition as part of the Intercollegiate Choral Award Scheme (N.B.: the deadline for applications is 15 February each year, although interested applicants are also strongly encouraged to attend the Vocal Assessment Days before making their application to Cambridge), or by appointment with the Director of Music. The Choir consists of around 22-24 singers (usually undergraduates at Homerton), the majority of whom receive choral scholarships. Some have been already singing in choirs since they were children, while others arrive at Homerton and discover their voice here. In addition to the annual stipend of £100, choral scholars receive free singing lessons. Homerton has a visiting singing teacher, although members of the Choir are free to take lessons with whomever they choose. After Choral Evensong on a Tuesday, all members of the Charter Choir receive Formal Hall completely free of charge, held in Homerton's impressive Great Hall, the largest of its kind in Cambridge at the time of its construction in 1889. Other benefits include the Alumni Reunion Lunch, the Christmas Wine & Cheese Party, the annual Choir Dinner, and the Charter Dinner.
