Homerton: The Evolution Of A Cambridge College edited by Dr Peter Raby and Dr Peter Warner

This substantial book of some 70,000 words and 180 illustrations was published in November 2010. It celebrates a significant moment in the long history of Homerton College, with the granting of a Royal Charter by Her Majesty the Queen and the College’s simultaneous change from Approved Society to full collegiate status within the University of Cambridge.

It is with great sorrow that the College announces the death of Dr Julia Swindells, former Senior Lecturer in English at Homerton and, more recently, at Anglia Ruskin University, who died at the end of last week.

Julia was a leading member of the English Department and the College, serving as a Staff Trustee and taking a major role in the College's research activity and in the College's governance. She was a brilliant teacher, much sought after for supervisions across Cambridge...

The college welcomed back 300 alumni and their guests to the Annual Roll Reunion at the end of September. Thank you to all who came and who made the weekend such a success. We hope to see many of you next year and will publish details of our special year group anniversaries in the New Year.

Homerton College, Cambridge is delighted to be a University partner for the Poet Laureate's Anthologise Initiative. Carol Ann Duffy and Morag Styles are both Fellows of Homerton and all our students are encouraged to write poetry - now we will be encouraging our secondary English and Drama trainee teachers and others to 'go forth and Anthologise!' by promoting the competition in schools.

The College is pleased to announce that Construction Engineering and Design Undergraduate of the Year Award went to Maria Canellas who is studying Structural and Environmental Engineering at Homerton College.

The award was sponsored by Laing O'Rourke and, through a series of online tests, application forms, interviews and assessment exercises, Maria emerged as winner. Laing O'Rourke only targeted a relatively small number of universities and so she beat off competition from other...
