Dr Carolin Hoeltken

I am a Senior Teaching Associate in Real Estate, Finance and Economics at the Department of Land Economy and a Cambridge University Land Society Fellow, a member of the Cambridge Real Estate Research Centre and the Deputy Director of the MPhil in Real Estate Finance.

Research Interests

My research interests include housing economics, household finance, and economic and urban history. In particular, I am interested in how people make their housing decisions, what factors play into these decisions and what the outcomes are to better understand what determines demand for housing and financial investment. I use detailed representative household data to analyse topics of political or societal interest.

Currently I am intrigued by preferences, attitudes and beliefs, such as risk aversion or expectations, and how they lead to different outcomes, particularly for women. Additionally, I have a keen interest in historical housing research, including the study of deeds spanning the past eight hundred years.

Teaching And Professional Interests

I teach a variety of quantitative courses in Land Economy. My undergraduate teaching includes mathematics, finance and investment, and advanced techniques in real estate. At the postgraduate level, I have taught corporate and household finance to MPhil students and guide MSt students through dissertation preparation. Additionally, I supervise students at all levels in their dissertation work.
