Dr Kim van Daalen
Dr Kim R. van Daalen is an environmental epidemiologist and BHF CRE Career Development Fellow at the Department of Public Health & Primary Care. Kim believes in a world in which everyone can live in a safe, healthy environment; a world in which people’s health is not determined by where they are born or the environment they are surrounded by. She is committed to creating equitable scientific evidence to help reduce the adverse impacts of environmental stressors and climate hazards on the health of all populations.
She finished her PhD as a Gates Scholar at the University of Cambridge in 2022/3, after which she spent two years at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. During her PhD she played a key role in the establishment of the Lancet Countdown in Europe collaboration, which she co-lead with Professor Rachel Lowe for four years.
Alongside her research, she has worked with with policymakers and multilateral organizations (e.g., EEA, WHO, WMO, ECHO, World Bank) to write several technical, policy or guidance reports; participated in high-level political meetings (e.g., COP, UNFCCC Interessionals, UN HLPF, WHO Regional Committee for Europe, WHA), and contributed to multiple book chapters.
