Please see below for a summary of our programmes. Our programmes aim to raise educational aspirations, encourage academic curiosity and support the development of study skills.

When applications are open for one of our programmes you will see the programme appear under 'Admissions and Outreach events' at the bottom of this page. You can also follow the Admissions and Outreach Twitter to be notified when applications open for our programmes. 

Homerton College Access and Outreach Programmes

Next Steps South Yorkshire

Who: Year 11 and 12 state school students living in South Yorkshire.

What: A free, online webinar series to help you gain the knowledge and tools to apply to Oxford and Cambridge. This series is run collaboratively by Homerton and Emmanuel Colleges in Cambridge and Magdalen and Mansfield Colleges in Oxford!

When: Online sessions run between March and September.

Scottish Webinar Series

Who: S4, S5 and S6 students from state schools in Scotland.

What: A free, online webinar series to help you gain the knowledge and tools to apply to Oxford and Cambridge. This series is run collaboratively by Homerton College and Pembroke College at the University of Cambridge!

When: Online sessions normally run from January to September. Applications now open. 

The Homerton College Higher Education Access Course

Who: Year 12 England/ Wales, Year 13 Northern Ireland, S5 Scotland (or equivalent) state school students thinking of applying to Cambridge.

What: A free, online webinar series to help you gain the tools to apply to Cambridge! Sessions include interview workshops, Q&A with current students, personal statement workshops and more!

When: Online sessions run throughout March. Applications open in September. A catch-up (shortened) version of the course is also run in September, for which applications open in June.

Future Ready!

Who: Year 10 England/ Wales, Year 11 Northern Ireland, S3 Scotland (or equivalent) state school students. Places are limited so priority will be given to those who meet the widening participation criteria set out in The University of Cambridge’s Access and Participation Plan.

What: A free, online webinar series to help you develop the skills and tools you need to thrive at school and in higher education!

When: Online sessions run throughout March with an in-person celebration event in April.

Homerton College Essay Programme

Who: Year 12 England/ Wales, Year 13 Northern Ireland, S5 Scotland (or equivalent) state school students thinking of applying to Cambridge. Places are limited so priority will be given to those who meet the widening participation criteria set out in The University of Cambridge’s Access and Participation Plan.

What: Are you interested in learning the skills to plan and write essays in the style of a university student on a topic you are passionate about? The Homerton College Essay Programme is for you! You will gain access to a series of workshops run by academics and students providing the grounding to produce your own essay in response to a choice of questions. After this, those who submit an essay will be invited to Homerton College's free student Sustainability Conference!

When: Online sessions run from May to July with an in-person conference run in August. Applications open in early Spring.

Homerton College Design Programme

Who: Year 12 England/ Wales, Year 13 Northern Ireland, S5 Scotland (or equivalent) state school students thinking of applying to Cambridge. Places are limited so priority will be given to those who meet the widening participation criteria set out in The University of Cambridge’s Access and Participation Plan.

What: Are you a budding designer, architect or engineer? The Homerton College Design Programme will help you to develop crucial university-level skills and thinking. You will gain access to a series of workshops run by academics and students, providing the grounding you need to produce your own sustainable design solution to any environmental problem that we are facing. After this, those whose design is 'Highly Commended' will be invited to an all-expenses-paid three day residential at Homerton College!

When: Online sessions run from May to July with an in-person conference run in August. Applications open in early Spring.

Student Sustainability Conference

Who: Year 11/12 England/ Wales, Year 12/13 Northern Ireland, S4/S5 Scotland (or equivalent) state school students thinking of applying to Cambridge. Places are limited so priority will be given to those who meet the widening participation criteria set out in The University of Cambridge’s Access and Participation Plan.

What: A student-led day conference where you will  learn, discover and collaborate with current Homerton students! Expect workshops, panel discussions, carousel activities and games, all linking to the theme of sustainability. There will also be tours of Homerton College running, as well as sustainable food on offer!

When: This annual conference usually takes place in August with applications open in Spring. Please note we may not be able to accept day visitors each year if spaces on the conference have already been filled by those participating in the College's Essay and/or Design Programme.

Tours of Homerton College

Who: Prospective Cambridge students in Year 11/12 England/ Wales, Year 12/13 Northern Ireland, S4/S5 Scotland (or equivalent).

What: If you would like to come and visit Homerton College, we run organised tours that are led by our fantastic Homerton student ambassadors.

When: Spring and Summer. Registration is via Eventbrite here.

Subject Focus Sessions

Who: Prospective Cambridge students in Year 12 England/ Wales, Year 13 Northern Ireland, S5 Scotland (or equivalent).

What: Subject Focus Sessions involve an introduction to Homerton College from a member of our Admissions Team, followed by a taster session to give you an insight into the subject at undergraduate level. To conclude, there will be a Q&A with current Homerton students. These sessions are open to all prospective Cambridge students. In previous years we have had Subject Focus Sessions in Law, Philosophy, Computer Science, Classics, Geography, Archaeology, History of Art, Maths, Natural Sciences and Engineering. Cambridge University Open Days

Who: Prospective Cambridge students in Year 12 England/ Wales, Year 13 Northern Ireland, S5 Scotland (or equivalent.

What: Come and visit Homerton College on our July and September Open Days! You will get to meet current students, go on guided tours of the college, and meet our Admissions Tutors!

When: July and September

Cambridge Biology Challenge

Who: Year 12/13 England/ Wales, Year 13/14 Northern Ireland, S5/S6 Scotland (or equivalent) UK school students

What: Run by Homerton College, this new nationwide competition challenges students to think deeply about the sort of questions that we ask at Cambridge. Every three weeks, a new question will be revealed, and teams of up to five students have two weeks to submit a response. Teams can choose whatever form they wish for the response, including posters, videos, podcasts and essays.
