Homerton fellow Ravindra Gupta to deliver Bernal Lecture on May 9th

We are delighted to highlight that Homerton fellow, Professor Ravindra Gupta, will be delivering the prestigious Bernal Lecture on May 9th. This lecture series, which commemorates the influential work of JD Bernal in the fields of structural biology, X-ray crystallography, and the social implications of science, aligns closely with Homerton's ethos of utilizing knowledge for social good.

Professor Gupta has had a distinguished career in the field of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. After completing his undergraduate medical studies at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, he pursued a Masters in Public Health at Harvard University as a Fulbright Scholar. He furthered his training in infectious diseases at prestigious institutions in Oxford and London, including UCL Hospital for Tropical Diseases, and completed his PhD at UCL, focusing on the lentiviral evasion of antiretrovirals and innate immune responses.

In 2011, Professor Gupta established his research group at UCL, concentrating on the genetics and biology of HIV resistance and reservoirs. He was promoted to full professor in 2016. Since 2019, he has served as Professor of Clinical Microbiology at the Cambridge Institute for Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Diseases. His contributions to the field were recognized globally when he was named one of the 100 Most Influential People by TIME in 2020.
