If you have an English Language condition as part of your offer, please read all the information on this page, as well as the English language requirements on the University website. Your offer letter will state which English Language qualification you are asked to achieve as part of your offer conditions.

Important Information about your English language test results

English language test results are only valid for two years from the date of the exam and should still be valid on the first day of the Cambridge course. Component scores should all be achieved in a single sitting (except in the case of IELTS One Skill Retake- please see below).

The deadline for achieving your English Language condition is 1 July 2024 as outlined in your offer conditions. However, we do encourage you to send your result to the College earlier, if possible; this is especially important if you need a Visa to study at Cambridge University. The International Student Office will not be able to process your CAS until you have met all the conditions of your offer, including your English Language condition. Please follow the below instructions to send us your English language examination results.

Please note that you should send us any English language tests you have already completed by 2 April 2024, and as entered on your UCAS application, even if your result doesn't meet your English Language condition.

If you have IELTS as part of your offer:

We ask for an overall band score of 7.5 with at least 7.0 in each element (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
For some visa types, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires a Secure English Language Test (SELT) such as IELTS for UKVI (Academic). However, in accordance with UKVI policy, as Cambridge is a Higher Education Provider (HEP) it is able to accept other English language qualifications it deems suitable when sponsoring Student visas, so a SELT is not necessary and the standard IELTS Academic test is acceptable.

IELTS now offers a One Skill Retake service of a single component of the test within 60 days of the original sitting. Scores achieved using One Skill Retake would be considered acceptable.

If you have TOEFL Internet Based Test (IBT) as part of your offer:

We ask for a minimum overall score of 110, with 25 or above in each element.
