Helpful tip if you are applying for Student Finance:

For “University or college name and address” enter Homerton College, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, CB2 8PH, and not just Cambridge. The UCAS code for Homerton College is H (Cambridge is C05). However, you might find that you need to use Campus Code B for 4-year versions of courses that can be either 3 or 4 years long, and Campus Code A otherwise. Once you have entered the correct information Student Finance should be able to match your course details.

When applying to university, you'll need to consider a range of costs, including tuition fees and living costs. The tuition fee you pay for your course will depend on whether you are classed as a Home or International student. The finance information available to you will also be different depending on your tuition fee status. The information on this page is for offer holders with Home fee status. However, if your Student Support application is unsuccessful on grounds of residence or immigration status, then you may be reclassified as having Overseas fee status, and be subject to the higher rate of tuition fees and a College fee. If this happens to you, then you must inform the College in writing.

There’s a range of financial help available to students at Cambridge, including Government Financial Support and Cambridge Financial Support. Eligibility for other government and University funding usually depends on your financial circumstances.

EU and international students (including those from the Channel Islands/Isle of Man) should check International fees and costs.

1. Tuition fees and categories

  • Tuition fees for Home students
The tuition fee for Home fee status students starting their first undergraduate degree in 2024 will be £9,250 for the year. The government regulated tuition fee for 2025-26 hasn't been set. It may be different from the tuition fee for 2024 and details will be published here as soon as they are available. Currently, Home fee status students can take out a government loan for their tuition fees. At the moment, payment of this loan can be deferred until you've left university and are earning a minimum salary, at which point the loan is repaid in instalments. Please see the information on government financial support and contact the appropriate student finance award agency for details about tuition fee support.
  • Tuition fees for affiliate students
Tuition fees for Home fee status students taking a second undergraduate degree (regardless of whether they are taking the affiliate or full course) may be different to the standard Home fee. See the second undergraduate degrees page for details.
  • Year abroad tuition fees
If your course includes a year abroad, the tuition fee for that year is different. Currently, the fee for a Home student on a full year abroad is set at 15 per cent of the tuition fee for that year in Cambridge (please check the undergraduate tuition fees documents, in related links, for the most recent figures). Year abroad tuition fees for later years haven’t been set yet but are likely to increase annually in line with inflation.

2. College Fee

All overseas fee status students, and those Home fee status students who aren't eligible for tuition fee support (e.g.: affiliate students or students who are not eligible for UK public funding), normally have to pay the College fee in addition to the University tuition fees. The College fee covers the cost to your College of providing a range of educational, domestic and pastoral services and support. The annual College fee may vary between Colleges and in many cases are fixed for the duration of your course. The College fee for Homerton for 2024-25 is £11,300, as published in the document, Undergraduate tuition fees 2024-25, on this page.

3. Living Costs

'Living costs' cover whatever you need to pay for, excluding tuition fees, while you're at university – for example, accommodation, food, course costs/study materials, personal expenses and transport. Find out more

4. Government Financial Support

Support arrangements can also vary according to where you're from in the UK. You should refer to the appropriate finance award agency website, listed below, for the most up-to-date information, guidance and how to apply:

You’re strongly advised to apply for financial support as early as possible, and you don’t need a confirmed place at a university to apply for this. Student finance applications for full-time undergraduates to launch in early March. Confirmation of Student Finance eligibility can take up to six weeks from the point of application.

Additional support
Some students may also be eligible for additional government funding, depending on particular circumstances/needs. For example:

  • Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs)
  • Childcare Grant
  • Parents’ Learning Allowance
  • Adult Dependants’ Grant

Please check the relevant student finance award agency website for details of what additional financial support is available and eligibility criteria.

5. Cambridge Financial Support

Cambridge bursary scheme: You could receive up to £3,500 a year of free financial support – with higher amounts for students who meet certain criteria. You do not need to repay the money. Bursary students may also qualify for further non-repayable awards and scholarships. Care leavers, for example could receive £8,350 a year. You must apply for financial assistance through your own regional Student Finance body (see above) in order to be eligible for the Cambridge Bursary. There is no separate application process for the bursary. You do not need to take up any loans that are offered but you must go through the application and income assessment process in order for the Cambridge Bursary to be awarded. We use the household income figure calculated by your student finance body as the basis on which to determine the level of Cambridge Bursary you will receive. Access Cambridge Bursary Scheme funding.

For students who are self-funding their studies, please note the following:
Please also make sure that you are aware of the information about Cambridge Bursary eligibility in the section on the Cambridge Bursary Scheme funding. Only students who apply for student finance can be awarded a Cambridge Bursary. You do not have to accept the loan offered by your regional funding body, and you can request a loan value of £0 if you are not comfortable applying for one. But you need to apply and be assessed by them as they make the payments on behalf of the University.

Education Premium: In addition to the Cambridge Bursary, students who have been eligible for free school meals (funded by your local authority) at any point during secondary school will receive the Education Premium. This is an additional non-repayable bursary of £1000 per year. If you did not declare eligibility for free school meals as part of your application but would now like to do so, please complete the Free Schools Meals Eligibility Task by 2 April 2024.

6. What to do if you will be applying for Government Financial Support (i.e. Student Loan)

  1. You’re strongly advised to apply for financial support as early as possible to the appropriate finance award agency. The document called Guide to making a student loan application (available under downloads section of this page), will assist you when completing the Student Loan application.

  2. Data Sharing Consent: we recommend that you/your parents do not tick the boxes signifying refusal to allow data sharing from Student Finance to us. If the boxes are left un-ticked, then Student Finance can communicate directly with the College about your entitlement to support, which will enable us (a) to evaluate your entitlement to the Cambridge Bursary, and (b) to issue you with appropriate bills for University Tuition Fees, having deducted your Tuition Fee Loan.

  3. It is important that you apply to, and respond to, the relevant Student Finance body promptly. We recommend that you log on to your online account regularly and check whether your Student Finance body needs any further information to progress your application, so that it is not unduly held up. If you are likely to be away from home at any stage between now and when you start at College, you should make arrangements for someone else to act on your behalf in these and all other matters concerning your start at university.

  4. For further help in meeting the financial requirements please see: www.gov.uk/apply-for-student-finance

8. When you come to Homerton at the Start of Year (Registration Day) (applicable for incoming freshers and further updated information will be provided closer to the time)

For Students who are funded by a Student Finance Award Agency:

When students come to register at the start of the year, we ask them to bring a copy of their funding body documentation if it hasn’t already been provided (it is sensible to bring a spare copy with you) and a piece of photographic I.D. (i.e. passport or driving licence). These will be used as evidence of your attendance to enable your loan and/or grant to be released to you from the relevant funding body by direct debit to your bank account.

If your fees are being funded by a Student Finance body and your application has not yet been fully processed by them, you must provide either a cheque or your card details as security in the unlikely event that your application is rejected and you become liable to pay your fees yourself. You must also provide proof that you have applied for funding by a Student Finance body.

Accommodation fees are payable in three termly instalments. For students funded by a Student Finance body, we will take either a cheque or your card details and not process payment until you have received your maintenance loan/grant. For all other students, accommodation fees are payable strictly at the start of each term.

For the Cambridge Bursary: no application is required for the Cambridge Bursary as this is automatically assessed through the Student Loan Company (SLC). Students will receive letters early in Michaelmas Term letting them know whether or not you are eligible. If eligible, the Student Loans Company will make payment on a termly basis into your bank account.

For details of other small grants and awards offered by the College, please see the Fees and Funding section of our website.

For Students who are Self-funding: (i.e. fees that are not funded by a Student Finance Award Agency)

For students who are self-funding, fees are payable in a single annual lump sum on registration day (by credit/debit card or cheque). Please do not bring cash.

Accommodation fees are payable in three termly instalments, strictly at the start of each term.

For the Cambridge Bursary: If a student is eligible, but is self-funding, they can apply for a £0 tuition fee loan in order to be assessed for the Cambridge Bursary by the Student Loan Company (SLC). No separate application is required for the Cambridge Bursary, but a student is automatically assessed through the Student Loan Company (SLC) on applying for a tuition fee loan. Students will receive letters early in Michaelmas Term letting them know whether or not they are eligible. If eligible, the Student Loans Company will make payment on a termly basis into your bank account.

For details of other small grants and awards offered by the College, please see the Student Finance, Awards and Grants section of our website.
