HOMERTON STUDENTS are the best-represented in Cambridge at this years’ university band competition.

Five students at the university - Mallory Beechey, Lewis Brooke, Izzy Lane, Vincent Mastin and Alex Williams - are all due to show off their musical talents next month.

They will be competing at the Take it to the Bridge, the University of Cambridge’s band competition for the chance to perform in front of thousands on the mainstage at the Cambridge Club Festival.

The grand finale of Take it to the Bridge on 1 March will see a musical showdown taking place between four student bands, each fighting for a chance to be part of a festival lineup of world-renowned artists including Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge, Melanie C, and Jessie Ware.

With Homerton having more students in the competition than any other Cambridge college, the odds must surely be in this college’s favour. Take it to the Bridge will take place at The Junction, and students are encouraged to get tickets.

The competition will be judged by a panel including Sonita Alleyne (Master of Jesus and Chair, Centre for Music Performance), Matt Fincham (Music Editor, BBC Radio 1) and Frazer Robinson (Co-Founder, Cambridge Club Festival), and their decision will be informed by an audience vote.

Simon Fairclough, Director of the Centre for Music Performance, said: “We are delighted to bring this exciting competition back for a second year running.

“We believe music is a fundamental part of life and that everyone should be able to participate in music at Cambridge.

“‘Take It To The Bridge’ is just one of many inclusive activities we organise to offer opportunities for the whole community to enjoy live music. It promises to be an intense and electrifying night, showcasing the best of Cambridge's student talent.”
