The College is dedicated to supporting your academic needs and enhancing your study skills throughout your time at Homerton and Cambridge, whether you are studying full-time or part-time, at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
If you find you are struggling with your work, if you are planning a new type of research project, or if you would like to build your confidence in a particular area, please do not hesitate to seek assistance as soon as possible: we are here to help!
This website is a good place to start when looking for available resources, guidance, and opportunities. You can also speak to your Tutor, your Director of Studies, the Education Co-ordinators, the Senior Tutor, or one of the Wellbeing Team for advice.
Our friendly and expert Library Team also provides guidance for students during staffed hours on a wide variety of topics including iDiscover, ebooks and ejournals, referencing, literature searching and reading recommendations. Students are free to drop in at any time, or can make an appointment with a member of staff.
One-to-one support is available for any student who requires assistance with writing skills, maths & statistics, or time management & personal organisation. You might find it helpful to speak to your Director of Studies, your Tutor, or another trusted third party, in the first instance before getting in touch with one of the advisors listed on the website.
Our outstanding Homerton Changemakers co-curricular programme provides opportunities for exploring your sense of purpose, your strengths and values, and building essential skills to help meet the particular challenges of contemporary society and the future world. You can look at some of their prompts for the ‘self’ here.
Please complete the online feedback and suggestion form if there is support you would like to see made available in the College that we are not yet providing, or to let us know about your experiences of accessing academic and study skills support. We always like to hear from our students and are continually revising and refreshing our activities and resources.
Most Faculties and Departments also run their own study skills courses: ask your Director of Studies (undergraduates) or Supervisor/Course Manager (postgraduates) for details of what is available for you.
Through the University you can also access many central resources, or sign up for courses or other opportunities:
- The University Library’s amazingly helpful CamGuides series. This is split into Camguides for Undergraduates, for Master’s students and for PhD students. This is a resource written by students and librarians to help support you through your time at Cambridge. Each guide contains study skills sections as well as sections tailored to the specific academic needs of each group.
- The undergraduate ‘Transkills’ (transferable skills) guidance.
- The Postgraduate Researcher Development programme.
- The Library Study Skills Catalogue. A catalogue of the study skills sessions and support run by various libraries across Cambridge University.
