Dr Andrew Catherall-Ostler
MA PhD AFHEA

Andrew is a College Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at Homerton teaching evolutionary biology to second and third-year students as part of the Natural Sciences Tripos. Andrew is also interested in the development of biological thinking-skills and co-founded the Cambridge Biology Challenge, a national competition that helps school students engage with see biology as a subject in which there is as much to think about as there is to remember.
Andrew read Natural Sciences at Homerton (2015-2018) and then completed a PhD in evolutionary biology at Christ’s College (2018-2022). His doctoral research looked at how different populations can adapt to different environmental conditions despite ongoing gene flow. Andrew is also collaborating with Prof Tom Williamson (UEA) in developing new statistical techniques to solve problems in historical ecology. Andrew was elected a Bye-Fellow in 2023 in recognition of his contributions to teaching and outreach.
