Dmitrii Sergeeve

Dr Dmitrii Sergeev is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual European Fellow at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge.

In 2011 he was invited research to the Laboratory for Social Anthropology of the Collège de France. In 2018 he won the Fulbright Faculty Development Program Fellowship to develop syllabus on “History of Children’s Picturebooks in the United States” at Illinois State University.

Dr Sergeev focuses on cultural meaning and its dependence on social determinants and cultural variables. He investigates how cultural devices, or cultural languages, and production of cultural texts function within an underrepresented social group. His current interest in illustrated literature with its connection to societal and cultural development stemmed from one term study at the University of Versailles-Saint-Quentin in 2013. He questioned the fact of the emergence of illustrated children’s literature particularly with its connection to social and historical context. This led him to develop a theory of pragmasemantic behaviour in his PhD thesis. Later Dr Sergeev linked the studies of illustrated texts and culturally underrepresented groups. His current project is ‘Evolving Attitudes toward Single Motherhood in the UK and Russia’, financially supported by the European Commission Programme.
