Scott Annett

Scott Annett is an Associate Professor of English at Robinson College and Bye-Fellow of Homerton. He is also an Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculties of English, Divinity and Italian. He teaches Practical Criticism at parts I and II within the Faculty of English, as well as the Medieval papers (including part I, paper 2 and part 1, paper 3). For part II, Scott teaches paper 2 (Tragedy), paper 5 (Chaucer), paper 6 (Medieval Supernatural) and, in the Italian Department, IT7 (Dante and the Culture of his Age).

Scott is currently working on the relationships between literature, rhetoric, and both expressions of, and responses to, emotion in the Medieval period. More specifically, this work is structured around the intersections between Virgilian ‘pietas’, Dantean ‘pietà’ and Chaucerian ‘pitee’, in turn exploring the role of the vernacular (and translation) in the formation of community. Scott also works on Samuel Beckett, Primo Levi and Dante.
