Timos Kipouros has interests in the field of Computational Engineering Design and the application on aerodynamics, and other engineering disciplines. He is developing heuristic optimisation algorithms, adaptive geometry representations and detailed modelling for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) evaluations, using commercial and in-house tools. He is modelling complete computational design systems for the efficient and practical multi-objective and multi-disciplinary design investigations of real-world applications. He is actively collaborating with industrial companies such as Rolls-Royce, Airbus, Siemens, and Nordex. He is also an expert in post-analyses of multi-objective optimisation processes using Parallel-Coordinates; a methodology that produces qualitative information and understanding of design in aerodynamics and other disciplines, by visualising high-dimensional data and by relating and revealing patterns between the design parameters and the physical performance metrics. He has also expanded this technique and deployed while an optimisation process progresses with the intention to minimise the whole design cycle time. Furthermore, he is developing and enhancing the intelligence and capabilities of design software that use massively parallel computational resources in collaboration with Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

Teaching And Professional Interests

Timos teaches both in Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. The former teaching activities take place in the Department of Engineering, Cambridge University through demonstrations in Part IA, IB and IIA of the syllabus, and also through supervisions in the Colleges in Structures, Materials and Thermofluid Mechanics in Part IA and IB. Postgraduate teaching in Cranfield University through MSc, PhD and EngD projects supervision relates to his research interests.
